Well, I commend you for wanting to open your own business, but there are not too many people who are going to give away their wholesale contacts. They have spent too much time and effort cultivating them to divulge to anyone. This is why if you want to go into business, you got to do the math! You got to get your own leads, find your own sources, make research your business to grow your business.

First of all...

you cannot use your mother's account on eBay - not allowed per eBay's User Agreement. eBay will suspend her account if discovered and you also have to be of the legal age of 18 to trade there and must have you own account to buy sell.

Second of all...

It takes much more than simply determining a starting amount to sell to make money. There is the matter of overhead, which will consist of seller fees, PayPal fees - if you decide to use their service, shipping cost, insurance, bubble wrap, labels, product purchase cost, printer toner, tape...

Thirdly........regarding Adobe After Effects

You have not done your homework! There are at least 79 live auctions right this moment - people selling the very same item you are! Not sure how long it will take for you to sell to 1000...

Before you leap into business, please do the hours of research and planning it takes to be a successful businessperson. Before you lose precious time and money, look long and carefully, before you leap into something you'll bitterly regret doing later.

Even working a newspaper route, shoveling snow, mowing lawns, washing cars, or operating a lemonade stand, takes good business sense. That's how my brothers and I began our businesses. Mine was the lemonade stand and newspaper route.

Your mother's money is most likely hard worked - by her working for it, so please don't take her for granted.

So you are looking to buy items at wholesale for 30-40 dollars and sell them for $1000?

Son, lots of people would like to have them items, too.

The word wholesale means that you buy a LOT of them - that's why the unit price is lower, because you are buying dozens, even hundreds of items at one shot. Unless you're willing to shell out a heckuva lot more than $30-$40, I suggest you forget about the buying wholesale route.

A better way would be to check out garage sales in your area, and your local Craigslist, for items that are obviously being sold off at below market value. You can check market value from EBay or pricegrabber, or even Craigslist. If you really put your mind to it, I'd bet you can find some neat stuff.

For example, I bought a sound mixer off Craigslist when I saw the advertised price was real low ( only $30 ), then cleaned it up, tested it thoroughly, and sold it on eBay for $80. But that's because I know sound mixers well, and am knowledgeable about the market value.

I commend you for having a great spirit of entrepreneurship at 12 years of age - way to go, son. Wish more kids were like you - when I was 12, my thoughts were only on bikes and ice cream ( today its probably more like iPods and xBoxes ).
